Jonah Hitchens Band
We welcome the Jonah Hitchens band to perform on the festivals outdoor stage at Blackmore Gardens on Monday 27 May at 1.20pm.
Jonah Hitchens blends soul, funk, psychedelia and jazz into a single exhilarating mash up. If Curtis Mayfield jammed with Jimi Hendrix, it might sound just like this. Jonah will front his 8-piece band with soulful vocals, swirling guitar riffs and bucketloads of charisma.
Fresh from the recording studio, Jonah presents a brand-new show, featuring tracks from his upcoming LP, ‘Sunset Circus’. It’s full of retro sounds and influences.
His musical journey travels from the freewheeling 60’s to the cool vibes of the early 70’s.
He cites influences as diverse as Bill Withers, Curtis Mayfield, Parliament, Gil Scott Heron, Pink Floyd and Jimi Hendrix. If you’re ready for some musical time travel – at 100mph – then this is the gig for you!
Still only 25, Jonah studied jazz at Trinity Laban in London. Its former students include Fela Kuti, Joe Armon-Jones and Moses Boyd. He is a talented guitarist, singer and lyricist.
As something of a musical wild child, his stage performances are dynamic, exciting and unpredictable!
He has been playing with this talented band of young musicians for eight years. Together, they have released Sugar-coated Sugarcane (2015), A Little dedication (2015), The Feeling (2016), Floating (2018) and A Drive to Devon (2020).
